Indented cylinder separator BTHM type is applied for separation of impurities, which differ from main crop by its dimensions, at the enterprises for grain processing into food products. Such impurities include cockle, which is smaller (shorter) than wheat; oat, which is longer than wheat; pea, lentil and similar round impurities that might be found among grains of oat, buckwheat and other cereal crops.


Machine may be applied at groats mills for separation of intermediate cereals hulling products into two fractions (dehulled and undehulled). Machine also separates broken kernels from whole kernels.

Gravity separator is produced in accordance with third category of GOST-15150, climate version “U” for internal market and export to temperate countries. However, machine has to work reliably in operating regimes at a temperature from 10 (°С) degrees below zero to 40 (°С) degrees above zero, relative moisture 80% with average annual temperature of 15 (°С) degrees above zero, atmospheric pressure from 650 to 800 mm Hg (86,6÷106,7 kPa).

Structure and Functioning


The main machine parts are: frame 1, drive 2, indented cylinder 3, sloping shoot (chute) 4, screw 5, inlet 6 and outlet 7 casing (fig.4).


Grain is supplied to the indented cylinder designed for separation of short grain impurities and broken grain in the cockle cylinder and longer impurities in the oat cylinder.


Indented cylinder consists of two main parts: cylinder with cells in the inner surface and chute. When cylinder rotates, short impurities from grain mixture settle in cells in the cockle cylinder, rise up and are transferred to the chute inside the cylinder and removed by the screw, while in the oat cylinder whole grains rise up and are transferred to the chute. The chute can be rotated around cylinder axis for adjustment of impurities separation quality. Main grain doesn’t fit along the cell length and moves along the cylinder and leaves the cylinder at the opposite end of the loading in the cockle cylinder, and in the oat cylinder larger particles move along the cylinder.
